Electrical Safety

What is Test and Tag?

A plain-English guide to electrical tagging — what gets tested, why it matters, and who requires it.

Test and tag — also known as electrical tagging, appliance testing or portable appliance testing — is the inspection and electrical testing of portable appliances: power leads, power boards, tools, computers, kitchen appliances and more. Each item gets a visual inspection, an electrical safety test, and a durable tag showing the test date, next test due, and who tested it.

Prevents shock & fire

Damaged leads and faulty appliances are a leading cause of workplace electric shock and electrical fires. Testing finds faults before they hurt someone.
